Review:

I was so glad to find that there was more to read about Rachel's life and the Playground mafia and I wasn't surprised to read an even more hilarious book with a touch of drama that makes the story more realistic and interesting.

A Year in the Life of a Playground Mother by Christie Barlow

Release Date: 06.09.2014

Synopsis:

Ever had the pleasure of collecting your children from the school playground? Even if you haven't, this is a hilarious must-read.

Fed up with the playground mafia at her children’s school, Rachel Young is desperate for a change.

With her family and various pets in tow, a picture-perfect village in the countryside beckons. There, Rachel’s children will be able to keep chickens and skip through fields and she’ll bid farewell to the botoxed, fake-Gucci wearing Mumzillas forever.

But at the new school the mums are even worse, and before long, Rachel finds herself contending with a motley crew including Mrs High School Musical, The International Sex God and The Frisky Pensioner.

While the children are practicing their sums and perfecting their reading, Rachel is learning some harsh lessons on the other side of the school gates, and ruffling plenty of feathers along the way…

Review:

I've had so much fun reading this book and even if I don't have kids yet I know the playground dynamics too well thanks to my nieces.

Our heroine,Rachel,is so glad to move but she doesn't imagine that her new village is so full of lunatics that she thinks to go back to the North.

I can't wait to read the second book of the series.

Release Date: 02.25.2016

Synopsis:

Red Maine’s blue-collared bad boy, North Underwood, has a dirty little secret—Will Tanner.

Friends since kindergarten, North had been the one to jump first, and his fall into Will’s bed ten years ago had been no exception. Will and North had been inseparable, but things change, people grow apart, and even a blazing flame can dwindle to a dying ember over time.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

After a run in with a bottle of Bundy rum, Will and North find themselves in a compromising and all too familiar position.

Blurred lines, bad decisions, and one wrong foot after another lead these two down a spiral of sarcasm, secrets, and sex, but when North’s hetero status is called into question he can’t figure up from down. And despite Will telling himself he wouldn’t fall again, he’s head over heels and wandering without a compass.

Love is love.

Love is truth.

Love … shouldn’t be this damn hard to figure out.

Review:

Finding North was the first book written by Carmen Jenner that I've read and I really liked it.

The author delivered a very good story, hot and emotional, that keeps the reader's attention throughout the book.

I was so shocked (in a good way) to see that the story takes place in Australia because I'm too used to read US books but I'm really curious about new countries.

I've loved Will since the beginning,he is so proud and he doesn't let the homophobic citizens of his little village to put him down making his life a nightmare.
North,on the other hand, grew on me page after page as he gradually understands he is not a bad person due to his sexual liking and he starts to fight for what or better for who he loves.

Review:

Red Card was the first time I read a football/soccer story that takes place in Europe and I liked it because it seems so real and you can see that the author has done a lot of research before publishing it.
Good job Carrie Aarons,I really appreciated your hard work!!! This was the first time I've read something written by this author but it won't be the last.
Killian and Leah's chemistry sparks as soon as they met but you can feel the love for each other growing page after page, battle after battle against the paparazzi, argument after argument.
I liked how the characters show their true selves a little bit at time throughout the book, that helped me to connect with them.

Excerpt:

Trying to dash off to find the British Prince of Moodiness proves difficult in the six-inch stilettos the stylist had strapped onto my feet. I didn't wear clothing like this. I was the Oklahoma girlnextdoor, cute and pretty in my sundresses and boots. I didn't do skintight, short or heeled. I could hear the snickers of the PR handlers around me as I stumbled like a baby calf off of the carpet in search of my responsibility.

Turning down the block and moving away from the mayhem, I spotted a tall figure in the shadows. I'd read enough about Jack the Ripper before coming over here to be spooked, but then I saw the shine of a metal flask being raised to the lips, and I could only take one guess as to who that was.

I marched up, as best as I could in the shoes. "You need to come back and walk the red carpet."

Killian's skyblue eyes twinkled with sly amusement and barely restrained anger. "Oh, and you're going to make me, huh America's Sweetheart?"

The smell of what I'm sure was overlyexpensive whiskey blew across my face as he exhaled. He pretended to give an air of nonchalance, but I could read his body language better than he thought I could. He was so coiled and tense, he gave a cobra ready to strike a run for its money. Rage and sorrow poured off of him in waves, blanketing the dark side street in misery so abundant that I could feel it down to my bones. And something else. I don't know why it struck me, perhaps because the emotion was running through my veins as well. But this man...he was lonely.

"You're cheeky, I like that." He raised the flask in a salute to me and tilted his head back as the amber liquid disappeared into that appealing mouth. Damn it. This bad boy with a bad attitude was not going to ruin my ca-reer or my time here. I was done letting people decide the future for me, sweeping me along in the current just because I let them.

I knocked the flask straight out of his hand, sending little droplets of whiskey landing on both of us.

"Listen you jackass! I don't know who you are. In fact, I don't care if you're the Prime Minister of this country! This job, I really need it. I'm taking this shot and succeeding at it if it means I have to put my blood, sweat and tears into it. And some London bad boy parading his pissed off attitude around for the world to see is not going to stop me! So button your jacket, plaster a smile on, and get on that carpet!"

My breathing was ragged, all of the energy I'd saved up to get through the event suddenly spent. Jetlag, home-sickness and heartbreak were taking over, and I could feel the pull of all three from the inside out.

The leer on Killian's face only proved that my tirade was all for nothing.

And then he moved. It was a blur of motion and speed before my back was against a brick wall. He'd pinned me, like a wolf circling in on their prey. Nervous tremors washed over my flesh, and I could hear the roaring in my ears. I was half afraid he would actually rip my throat out for speaking to him that way. The other half of me was too incredibly aroused to care.

"I am bad. But I'm not a boy, I'm a man. Have you ever been with a man, little lamb?" He chuckled darkly, lean-ing his entire form into me and pinning my hips with his hands. "No, I don't think you have."

Review:

I've really enjoyed reading A Sudden Crush. The story evolved at a good pace and even if the stranded on a desert island isn't a rare plot I found that Camilla Isley's writing style made it fresh and catching.

This is one of those books that make you feel warm inside and put a big smile on your face while you are reading them.

I loved all the characters, besides Joanna and Connor I also loved their furry baby,Manny the little macaque that Joanna adopted on the island.

Indigo Nights by Louise Bay

Release Date: 02.09.2016

Synopsis:

The only thing better than cake is cake with a side of orgasms.

Dylan James has no expectations when it comes to relationships. He uses women for sex and they use him for his money and power. It’s quid pro quo and he's good with that. It works.

Beth Harrison has been burned. She's tired of the lies and the game playing that men bring and has buried herself in her passion—baking which keeps her out of the reach of heartbreak. As she begins her career as a TV baker, a new world opens up to her.

Dylan and Beth both know that casual sex is all about giving what you need to get what you want.

Except that sometimes you give more than you need to and get everything you ever wanted.

Review:

I have throughly enjoyed reading Indigo Nights.

Louise Bay writing is getting better and better, in this book you can easily pinpoint the characters' different feelings and emotions. The sex is steamy and hot as usual.

I liked how Dylan and Beth's story evolves from a one night of incredible awesome sex after a fortunate encounter on an airplane to a beautiful love story between two persons,at times frail.
They have loved and suffered in the past but they go beyond their fears and choose to believe in each other.

Excerpt:

Dylan

“I understood the dynamic between men and women. I got to sleep with hot women, and in exchange they got to fuck a rich guy in the hope that they’d become beneficiaries of my cash. I might be handsome, but I knew from bitter experience that if a richer guy came along, I’d be left in the taillights of the women I slept with. It just happened that now, there weren’t many richer men, which gave me a certain satisfaction. I’d made peace with the transactional nature of relationships between men and women and had no expectations. At some point in my past I’d thought that love was possible. Not anymore. It was all about giving to get.”

Falling Completely by Aidan Willows

Release Date: 01.14.2016

Synopsis:

MALIYA

Falling in love is not for me. I don’t do relationships, they never end well.
I don’t believe in fate, soul mates or happy, fairy tale endings. I’m definitely not a sweet little princess in search of her prince.
I have a plan to follow and falling in love is not part of that plan.
Nothing is going to change my mind.
Not even a domineering, gorgeous, blue-eyed firefighter who seems to be everywhere I go.

CALEB

The moment I saw her, I knew.
I knew the funny, curvy, raven haired beauty was supposed to be mine.
She may not agree with me at the moment, but I’m a patient man.
I’m not afraid to play dirty to get what I want.
And I want Maliya Abbott.

When her sister decides to move from London, across the Atlantic Ocean to Starling Falls to run an estranged relative’s bakery, Maliya Abbott is pretty sure her sister has lost her ever-loving mind.

Not wanting to be separated from the only family she has left, Maliya goes with her, a move that was only supposed to last a year. After all, training to be a doctor at the same University her parents did had always been her goal.
What she hadn’t planned on, was meeting Caleb Jameson. A man who is adamant they are destined to be together. That would be great, if she actually believed in any of that crap.
She also hadn’t planned on his insane, lovable, meddling family trying to derail her plans.
Maliya is a smart girl. She knows what she wants and what she doesn’t want. She definitely wants to go to Oxford University and train to become a doctor. She definitely does NOT want anything to do with Caleb Jameson.
Now, if only she could get her stupid heart to listen to her head.

**Authors Note: 18+ For mature readers only. Book contains graphic language, scenes of a very sexual nature, a dirty-talking and determined alpha male, a sassy and food obsessed heroine who talks to herself far too much, a cynical and suspicious geriatric aunt, a meddlesome family, some very unhelpful friends, a mind controlling goldfish and a possibly cannibalistic cat.**

Review:

I really liked this story full of funny bantering between the main characters and some tense scenes.
Every time I read about firefighters I think I don't read enough of these stories. Caleb and Maliya chemistry is over the top since their first encounter but their relationship grows day after day, and also thanks to the support characters intervention our heroine understands that the most important thing to live a good life is to reach Happiness and to accept the love of the people she met during her journey.
This is Aidan Willows debut novel and with a better editing it would have been perfect but I liked her writing so I can't wait to read her next novel in the series.

Review:

Here I am back to the Compound ad after the shock of the first story in the series I can say that I've really enjoyed this book that sucked me in since the beginning and kept me on my toes until the last page.
I love the main character,Aspen, because she is a strong woman that doesn't stop fighting for the wellness of her children.
Thank you to Melissa Brown to deliver this amazing story with her superb writing.

Excerpt:

The Prophet linked his hands behind his back, tilting his head a bit as he studied me. “The cake is delicious. Did you make it?”

“I’m glad you enjoyed it, but no, Sarah is the baker of the family. I do make a delicious roast chicken.”

“I should like to try it sometime.”

“I’d be honored.”

Another pause, and my heart raced. There had to be a reason for this conversation. Perhaps he would explain his actions, although the chances of that were slim. The Prophet answered to no one. Who was I to think he’d feel any obligation to explain himself to me?

Get a grip, Aspen. You’re nothing special, just a woman, like any other on this compound.

“My mother is certainly taken with you.”

“Thank you. I like her very much.”

The Prophet stared back at the bench where Jorjina was watching birds chirping from the tree above her. “Well, she always has liked Paul’s wives.”

“Excuse me?” I asked, wondering if I’d misunderstood his last statement.

“How’s your dog?” he asked, clearing his throat. When he turned his attention back toward me, his face hardened.

“Scout?” I asked, my throat dry. “He’s fine. He’s off playing with Jeremiah, I’m sure. They’re attached at the hip.” I attempted to divert the conversation in another direction, but I failed.

“Yes, your boy seems rather attached, doesn’t he?”

“They’re the best of friends.”

“You know, I was surprised to see the dog off the grounds of his home. Is he allowed to roam?”

“No, sir, he normally stays in our yard. Someone left the gate open and he just got out, I guess.”

“Ah, I see.”

“I’ve asked my sister wives to double-check that they always lock the gate, so it shouldn’t happen again.”

Please understand what I’m saying. Please don’t punish my family for what I saw . . . what I think I saw.

“I should hope so. It would be a shame if he wandered away; it seems your little boy would surely follow. You said yourself they’re attached at the hip.” He tipped his head forward and raised both eyebrows. “Am I making myself clear?”

Jeremiah? No! Don’t you touch my baby!

I swallowed hard as sweat popped out on my forehead, my neck, my hands. The Prophet was threatening me, threatening to harm my little boy. In sheer panic, I gave the only answer I could possibly offer.

“Yes, sir.”

“Good.” He clasped his hands together. “Now, I believe I’ll have another slice of cake.”

He stared at me, waiting for me to serve him. I was nothing if not perceptive to expectations. The Prophet had threatened me, and then demanded dessert. His eyes were dull and lifeless, as if threatening to harm my child was just another part of his daily role as Prophet.

In that moment, something shifted within me. If the Prophet felt the need to threaten me, to threaten the life of my youngest child, then he was up to no good. This became quite clear.

And at that realization, I grew angry. Furious.

For weeks, I’d hoped that I was wrong, that I misunderstood. But I knew without a shadow of a doubt that if I’d misinterpreted what I’d witnessed, then there would be no need for the warning that had just taken place.

So I harnessed my bravery within, took a breath, and looked him square in the eye. “Of course, dogs do have minds of their own, don’t they?”

The Prophet’s jaw tensed and his Adam’s apple bounced as he swallowed. “I suppose they do.”

“We try to control him, but he’s just an animal, after all.”

The Prophet stared at me in silence.

“I’ll get that cake for you,” I said with a nod, and went to retrieve a plate with the largest piece I could find as my heart pounded furiously in my chest.

As I walked back to join him, I felt strong, powerful. I’d called his bluff and gotten away with it.

Or had I? Panic replaced my confidence as my heart continued to thump so hard within me that I felt my lungs could deflate completely. The pressure within my chest was almost unbearable.

What on earth did I just do? Have I put my baby at risk? What kind of mother am I?

Apologize, Aspen. Repent! Make things right!

I returned to the Prophet, placed the plate in his hands, and opened my mouth to speak. Before I could utter a single syllable, he gripped the plate with one hand and my forearm with the other. He squeezed hard, painfully, and I gasped.

“Watch your step, Aspen. Your life can change in an instant.”

“Yes, sir.” I looked around the yard to see Paul watching my interaction with his brother. A concerned and confused look crossed his handsome face as he studied me.

Keep sweet. Keep sweet. Keep sweet.

“If you’ll excuse me, I should join Paul and my sister wives.”

“Of course.” The Prophet nodded, releasing my arm and turning his attention to the cake on his plate. He glanced down and smiled. “Ah, a corner piece. My favorite.”

He plunged his fork into the thick icing and placed the large bite of cake in his mouth, such a carefree action considering the tension that loomed between us just seconds before. While I required every ounce of strength within me to join my husband and appear unruffled, the Prophet had no trouble going about his business and enjoying his dessert.

A disturbing thought came to me as I walked to join Paul. Perhaps I don’t know the Prophet at all.
